G9SKIN VS MY SKIN. WHO WINS?

For someone who typically breaks out from grapefruit, I was thoroughly impressed by these peeling pads.

KAYLA ALLARD on FEBRUARY 1, 2020

I have sensitive skin, which has many triggers like BHA, Grapefruit and honestly anything targeted at brightening. 95% of the time my skin turns bright red, feels itchy, and breakouts appear.

You would think I would’ve made a run for it at first sight of the G9Skin Grapefruit Vita Peeling Pad when it arrived on my doorstep. Yet, having just run out of my favorite go-to toning pads, I decided to live life on the edge and give these a shot, despite a looming feeling that these were going to completely destroy my skin.

To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement.

DESCRIPTION

The Grapefruit Vita Peeling Pad is marketed as a cleanser, toner, and a peeling product all in one. On top of that, it claims to help with 5 skin concerns that include dead skin and sebum care, moisturizing, soothing, and brightening. This product contains AHA (skin toner improvement), BHA (sebum and pore care), and PHA (dead skin cell care) which helps strengthen the peeling effect (G9).

INGREDIENTS

Water, citrus paradisi (grapefruit) fruit extract, cetrimonium chloride, cellulose, propylene glycol, zanthoxylum piperitum fruit extract, pulsatilla koreana extract, usnea barbata (lichen) extract, carbomer, polysorbate 80, 1,2-hexanediol, tocopheryl acetate, disodium edta, fragrance, salicylic acid, camellia sinensis extract, centella asiatica extract, glycyrrhiza glabra extract, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, polygonum cuspidatum extract, rosemarinus officinalis extract, scutellaria baicalensis extract, citric acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid, prunus armeniaca (apricot) fruit extract, prunus persica (peach) fruit extract, passiflora edulis flower extract, mangifera indica (mango) fruit extract, fragaria vesca (strawberry) fruit extract, rubus idaeus (raspberry) fruit extract, psidium guajava fruit extract, citrus grandis (grapefruit) fruit extract, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, houttuynia cordata extract, melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) extract, portulaca oleracea extract, hamamelis veirginiana (witch hazel) extract, rose extract, nelumbo nucifera flower water, eucalyptus globulus leaf extract, origanum vulgare leaf extract, hibiscus sabdariffa flower extract, hedera helix (ivy) leaf extract, linum usitatissimum (linseed) seed extract, salvia hispanica seed extract, pinus sylvestris leaf extract.

TEXTURE

The pad is a dual-sided pad with one side being embossing and the other being gauze. The embossing side is the 1st step and helps to remove dead skin cells, sebum, and any leftover makeup. Step 2 is the flip side with gauze, aka the “smooth part”, which targets soothing, moisturizing, and toning.

PRICE

This comes with a whopping 100 pads, for about $20. Because the prices fluctuate, this is about the average range for the product.

EXPERIENCE

As mentioned earlier, I truly believed this was going to be a complete miss for me, yet I was shocked on many levels. The first, simply, was that I had no negative reactions. After further research, I learned that the product contains soothing ingredients such as tea tree, centella asiatica extract, rosemarinus officinalis extract (rosemary), and rose extract, all of which have proven to work incredibly with my skin.

I used these for roughly a month and a half, and was very happy with the results. Immediately after using, my skin definitely looked brighter and felt smoother. Over time my skin had developed a good base for the rest of my skincare. I didn’t notice any type of purging due to the AHA, BHA, or PHA, and had 0 irritation or breakouts.

I really enjoy the pad itself. The embossing side wasn’t too rough but still provided an effective exfoliation. I almost always saw leftover makeup and excess oils on the pad, which is both disturbing yet satisfying. The soft side of the pad is nice as it replenished the moisture almost instantly and soothed any possible irritations that could have resulted from the embossing.

The value of these pads is pretty incredible. For around $20, you get 100 pads, which is roughly 20 cents per pad. If you follow the suggested 4-5 times a week use (especially if you have oily skin), then this should last about 20 weeks! If you have dry skin, this will last longer as you should only use this 2-3 times a week.

I don’t agree in how with this product is marketed because it is advertised as a one-and-only cleansing product.

In multiple ads from their promotional photos, the brand states that you can remove your makeup with the embossing side and use the soft side to go back and remove it once again, making a double cleanse unnecessary. As a huge believer and advocate of double cleansing with separate oil and water/foam products, I do not agree nor believe one should only rely on these pads. I do not suggest anyone buy this to use as your one and only cleanser.

My final verdict on the G9Skin Grapefruit Vita Peeling Pads is a solid 8/10! I’m super happy Beautchat sent these my way as I would have NEVER tried them out on my own. And I would’ve clearly been missing out
