REVIEW on ETUDE HOUSE Play 101 Blending Pencil

First there was Pencil, then Stick, and now we have Blending Pencil.

I don't know how far they will go with the 101 series,

it seems it's keep on expanding!

The blending stick is designed to help with doing more varied makeup.

.

It comes in 25 colours,

and in 4 textures.

I will do the colour tests by different textures.

.

These are the creamy texture.

Tey apply softly like cream, and blends in naturally to be used as base, shading, concealer, and brow makeups.

The colours with creamy textures are

2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15

.

.

They are easy-to-use, not too strong, solid colours based on brown.

.

Colour test

It's certainly creamy.

No.2 has a bit of that apricot colour in it, so it should be great for hiding dark circles under your eye.

No.3, 4, 5 are great for shading.

No.6, 9, 14 are perfect for brow makeups.

No.7 is a toned-down pink, and inmy opinion, great as a blusher.

No.8, 10 are great for darker makeups.

No.15 works as a highlighter, so use it as a point makeup tool on areas around eyes, mouth, etc.

These are jewel texture pencils.

.

As the name suggests,

each contain some glittering pearls,

so depending on the colour you can either use them as a highlighter or shadow.

The colours with jewel texture are

1, 11, 12, 13.

There should be more coming out, I hope.

It's not too shiny, so I think I can use it everyday.

It goes for more of that subtle look than the intense glamour look.

The next type is jelly texture

.

.

These guys have a glossy texture,

so it allows that fruity lip makeup,

or a glossy blush.

The colours for this type are

16, 17, 21, 23

.

.

Colour test

They are subtle differences in each of them.

But they do look similar to each other in the end.

Overall it's moisturizing look, and as a blusher it gives a clearer-looking feel.

It feels like... jelly, really.

Last but not least, Velvet.

The colours are

18, 19, 20, 22, 24, 25

.

.

Looking at the colours, they are for lips or blusher.

.

.

It has the most stiff texture out of four.

These colours do blend well, but they are still stiff.

.

Looking at their colours, they are suited for lip makeups.

I compared with other sticks.

.

Leftmost is this product,

and from there it's

Laura Mercier, CLIO, Missha, Mamonde.

That Mamonde stick is HUGE!

I use Laura Mercier one a lot, so it's a bit used up.

The design of this product seems easier to use compared to other company's.

I did shading with No.2,

but it doesn't really show well here.

.

.

I did a makeup with No.4, 11, 13 and gave a pointer with No.1 as highlighter.

.

I attached a cheap eyelash I could just get anywhere,

used ARITAUM's Idol Brushliner to get the eyeline,

then used ETUDE's Curl Fix Mascara Strawberry Chocolate Fondue.

Used ETUDE's Bling Me Prism Look at My Eyes BK803 Idol Choaker

to soften the eyeline, blending them to make it look a tad bit thicker.

Done!

I didn't use an additional blusher,

and the lip is Play 101 Blending Pencil No.25

.

I really love the lip colour here,

but I'm too lazy to use it everyday nowadays...

.

I tried to see whether I could do makeup with just the blending pencils

and turns out I can do most makeups without a problem.

They are very versatile,

and I particularly find the velvet ones useful.

They feel like using a matte lip stick.

.

I think more colours are coming up later down the line,

and I sure want more of them.

Can't wait to see what other colours they have up their sleeves.

The ones released here apply really well, smudging is really easy to do,

and stays on for a long time,

but be careful and try not to apply too thick.

.

Then again, nothing can be perfect.

.

I really have no big qualms about this.

I like it more than 101 Pencils.

.

I wish this one has a longer shelf-life however,

a lot of pencil type products harden if you don't use it too often,

making it really difficult use it again.

.

I hope this one lasts long!
